A Macro Calculator turns a calorie target or macro gram amounts into daily protein, carbohydrate, and fat numbers. It is useful when you already have a calorie target from a Calorie Calculator or TDEE Calculator and want to split that energy into macros.
NexaCalc keeps the calculation deterministic. It does not promise weight loss, diagnose nutrition needs, or turn a preset into a personalized meal plan.
Macronutrients are nutrients eaten in gram amounts: protein, carbohydrate, and fat. They are different from vitamins and minerals, which are typically needed in smaller amounts.
Each macro contributes energy, but food quality, fiber, meal timing, micronutrients, appetite, training, and health context also matter. A macro split is a planning structure, not a complete diet.
NexaCalc uses common nutrition energy factors for the main math: 4 kcal/g for protein, 4 kcal/g for carbohydrate, and 9 kcal/g for fat.
These factors are practical label-style estimates. Real foods can vary because of fiber, alcohol, sugar alcohols, processing, and rounding rules.
This default mode starts with known daily calories and divides those calories by a macro percentage split. For example, a 2,000 kcal target with the Balanced preset uses 50% carbohydrate, 20% protein, and 30% fat.
Custom percentages must total 100 within a 0.1 percentage-point tolerance. The calculator blocks invalid splits instead of silently changing your numbers.
Protein-First mode is useful when you want protein tied to body weight. The calculator sets protein grams from g/kg/day, sets fat from a calorie percentage, then assigns the remaining calories to carbohydrate.
If protein and fat use all available calories, the result is blocked because carbohydrate grams would be zero or negative.
Existing Macro Analysis works in the other direction. Enter the grams of protein, carbohydrate, and fat from a meal plan, recipe, or nutrition label. NexaCalc calculates macro calories, percentages, calorie difference, and AMDR context.
If you enter declared calories, the calculator compares declared calories with calories from 4-4-9 macro math. Differences are expected because labels and recipes often use rounding.
Presets are neutral starting splits. They are not ranked as better or worse and they do not account for medical needs, food preferences, or training phases.

AMDR values are broad adult reference ranges for the share of calories from carbohydrate, protein, and fat. NexaCalc displays whether the calculated split is within, below, or above these adult ranges without turning them into medical categories.

Protein-First mode includes 0.8, 1.2, 1.6, and 2.0 g/kg/day options, plus a custom range from 0.5 to 3.5 g/kg/day. NexaCalc warns below 0.8, above 2.0, and more strongly above 2.5 because those values can be inappropriate for some people.
The calculator does not decide whether a higher protein target is right for you. Medical conditions, prescribed diets, training load, appetite, and total calorie intake can change the decision.
In Protein-First mode, fat is a selected percentage of daily calories. Carbohydrates are not selected directly; they receive the calories left after protein and fat.
This makes the math transparent. If the remaining carbohydrate calories are too low or negative, the inputs need adjustment rather than hidden normalization.
The optional fiber value is 14 grams per 1,000 kcal. It appears as a contextual reference because fiber is commonly listed within total carbohydrate on nutrition labels.
Fiber is not added as a fourth macro, and NexaCalc does not subtract fiber to produce net carbohydrates.
The meal split divides daily macro grams and macro calories evenly across 1 to 8 meals. This is a mathematical convenience, not a claim that any meal frequency is better.
Example 1: Balanced preset at 2,000 kcal. Carbohydrate is 50%: 2,000 x 0.50 / 4 = 250g. Protein is 20%: 2,000 x 0.20 / 4 = 100g. Fat is 30%: 2,000 x 0.30 / 9 = 66.7g. Optional fiber reference is 28 g/day.
Example 2: Protein-first plan at 2,200 kcal for 70 kg with 1.6 g/kg protein and 30% fat. Protein is 112 g, fat is 73.3 g, and remaining carbohydrate is 273 g.
Example 3: Existing macros of 150 g protein, 250 g carbohydrate, and 70 g fat calculate to 2,230 kcal from macros. Against a 2,200 kcal declared value, the difference is 30 kcal.
Calories are energy. Macros are the protein, carbohydrate, and fat grams that supply energy. A macro plan should always reconcile with the calorie target, which is why this page shows total macro calories and calorie difference.
TDEE estimates how much energy you use in a day. A macro split describes how a chosen calorie target could be divided among protein, carbohydrate, and fat. For activity-adjusted daily energy, use the TDEE Calculator.
Macro targets are sometimes used alongside body-size or body-composition estimates. BMI, ideal weight, and body-fat estimates each answer different questions, and none of them turns a macro split into a personalized medical plan.
